Accomplishments: University Libraries
Raegen Pietrucha (Libraries) won the 2015 Two of Cups Press Poetry Chapbook Contest. Her chapbook manuscript, An Animal I Can鈥檛 Name, will be published in 2016.
Greg Voelker (Libraries) and Heather Johnson, formerly of Libraries, co-authored the article 鈥淟ASR Pointers: Assessing the Need for, Creating, and Measuring Standardized Training for an Automated Storage and Retrieval System,鈥 which was published last month in Strategic Library.
Kristen Costello (Libraries) won the 2015 University Libraries Outstanding Library Faculty Service Award. Costello was honored for her service as vice chair and chair of the Innovative Users Group (IUG), which included work on the IUG's annual conferences. She also was recognized for the leadership she provided when the group acquired鈥
Su Kim Chung (Libraries) was elected vice president/president-elect of the Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists (CIMA), an association of archives professionals from institutions in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, and New Mexico in May. She previously served on CIMA鈥檚 council from 2002-04 and 2011-13.
Silvia Southwick (Libraries) won the 2015 University Libraries Outstanding Library Faculty Scholarship Award for her scholarly work in the linked data field. While she has a history of scholarship with linked data, she outdid even her previous accomplishments by producing 10 scholarly works in 2014, including peer-reviewed journal鈥
Katherine Rankin (Libraries) won the American Library Association鈥檚 (ALA) Map and Geospatial Information Round Table (MAGIRT) Honors Award this summer at the ALA conference in San Francisco. She was recognized primarily for event planning and a presentation she did at the ALA annual conference in Las Vegas last summer as well as for acting as鈥
Claytee D. White (Libraries) was recognized as the Best Keeper of Our History in Vegas Seven鈥檚 2015 "Best of the City" issue. As the inaugural director of the 性视界传媒 University Libraries鈥 Oral History Research Center, White has spent more than a decade collecting the stories of Las Vegas residents and preserving the history of Southern Nevada.鈥
Melissa Bowles-Terry (Libraries) and Cassandra Kvenild of the University of Wyoming co-authored the book Classroom Assessment Techniques for Librarians, which was recently published by the Association of College and Research Libraries. Classroom Assessment Techniques for Librarians provides proven methods for gauging students' ability to think鈥
Sue Wainscott (Libraries), John Novak (Libraries), and Mohamed Trabia (Engineering) are participating in the 2015 cohort of the Digital Library Federation E-Research Network. The goal of the network is to create a mutually supportive community engaged in continuous learning about e-research and data management support. The 性视界传媒 team will produce a鈥
Samantha Godbey (Libraries) wrote a book chapter, "Embedding With Google: Using Google to Optimize Embedded Librarian Involvement," that was recently published in the book The Complete Guide to Using Google in Libraries, Volume 1 by Carol Smallwood (editor). The book was published this year by Rowman & Littlefield.
Gregory Carr (Libraries) participated in a panel presentation at the American Library Association Conference in June. The presentation, "Aligning Learning Spaces With Pedagogy: The Instruction Librarian's Role in Classroom Re/Design," explores strategies for small- and large-scale library learning space design as well as how changes to spaces鈥
Heng-Wei Cheng (Libraries) recently received the Libraries' Classified Staff Employee of the Year Award. He was recognized for his excellent work with patrons as well as behind the scenes. He took on additional responsibilities when his department was short-staffed and consistently remains on the lookout for new ideas from webinars and conferences鈥
