Michelle Light (Libraries) delivered the keynote address, 鈥淟iberate Your Content,鈥 at the annual meeting of the Society of California Archivists. In her keynote, she encourages cultural heritage institutions to re-examine their practices for duplication, permissions, and publishing fees to encourage broader use of their materials, compliance with鈥
David Schwartz (Libraries) is the author of Boardwalk Playground: The Making, Unmaking, & Remaking of Atlantic City, which was published recently by Winchester Books.
Melissa Bowles-Terry (Libraries) wrote a chapter titled "Proving and Improving the Value of the Academic Library" in the book Reviewing the Academic Library.
Barbara Tabach (Libraries) gave presentations about the Southern Nevada Jewish Community Heritage Project at meetings of Hadassah and the Sunday Assembly. Through the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project, University Libraries ensures that the unique historical contributions of our region鈥檚 Jewish population are preserved and shared. 鈥
Susan Wainscott (Libraries), along with Craig Palmer, formerly of the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies, and three other colleagues co-authored 鈥淧ractical Guidance for Integrating Data Management Into Long-term Ecological Monitoring Projects.鈥 This peer-reviewed lead article appeared in Wildlife Society Bulletin鈥檚 鈥
Michelle Light (Libraries) was selected to participate in Leadership Las Vegas (Class of 2016), Southern Nevada鈥檚 prestigious executive development program. She has a decorated 16-year career that includes the University of Michigan School of Information鈥檚 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award and induction as a fellow of the Society of American鈥
Denise Murphy, Hobreigh Fischer, (both Police Services), Raegen Pietrucha (Libraries), and Jessica Wilde, who formerly worked for police services, received a Meritorious Unit Citation from the department of police services for their leadership, innovation, teamwork, and dedication in developing and implementing the online registration process for鈥
Carol Ou and Marilyn Vent (both Libraries) gave a lightning talk in June titled 鈥淔AST Headings in the 性视界传媒 Libraries Catalog: A Laissez-Faire Approach!鈥 which detailed their approach to managing and supporting FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology) headings in the University Libraries鈥 catalog. Their talk was one of four accepted as鈥
Cyndi Shein (Libraries) presented a poster, "Building Bridges: Leading an Army of Graduate Student Interns," at the Society of American Archivists鈥 annual meeting. Her presentation detailed the mutually beneficial relationship between the University Libraries鈥 Special Collections Division and the history students employed there.
Emily Lapworth (Libraries) participated in a panel presentation titled 鈥淐apturing Community and Cultural Content鈥 at the Society of California Archivists鈥 鈥淭he Future is Now: Digital Initiatives in the Archives鈥 conference this summer. She discussed the University Libraries鈥 new scan-and-return process for the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage鈥
Karla Irwin (Libraries) presented the paper "Costume Design in the Archives: Descriptive Challenges and Solutions" at the Performing Arts Roundtable at the Society of American Archivists鈥 annual meeting. She also gave a poster presentation, "Improving Collection Access Through Standardization of Legacy Descriptions in ArchivesSpace," at the鈥
Su Kim Chung (Libraries) was elected vice chair/chair-elect of the reference, access, and outreach (RAO) section of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) in July. SAA is the oldest and largest national archival professional association in North America. She was chair of the organization's Committee on Archives, Libraries, and Museums from 2012-鈥
