Accomplishments: School of Nursing
Amanda Gutierrez and Janelle Rafanan (both Nursing) were named to the national board of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). Both are undergraduates.
Gutierrez was named NSNA director. Rafanan was named to the Nomination and Election Committee.
Kathleen Thimsen and Paul Thomas Clements (both Nursing) have been appointed as associate editors for the Journal of the Academy of Forensic Nursing.
Angela Silvestri-Elmore (Nursing) has been elected to chapter 100 of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Elizabeth Gaccione (Nursing) has been promoted to the role of student success facilitator. This position provides support for BSN students with time management tips, study strategies, and test-taking skills. The student success facilitator also collaborates with faculty and the student affairs team to ensure all students receive resources and鈥
School of Nursing was recently honored by the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association with the 2022 Institutional Award for Promoting Excellence in Cardiovascular Care. The school was formally recognized at the 28th Annual Cardiovascular Nursing Symposium.
Andrew Thomas Reyes (Nursing) was named editor of International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship. This is a peer-reviewed nursing education journal.
Jennifer Vanderlaan and Rebecca Benfield (both Nursing) have been accepted for fellowship by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). They are among the biggest group of inductees in ACNM history. They will be officially recognized in May. Fellowship is based on leadership, clinical excellence, scholarship, and professional achievement鈥
Andrew Thomas Reyes, Ehdzky-Ray M. Manzano (both Nursing), and Chad L. Cross (Environmental and Occupational Health) co-authored, 鈥淭he Moderating Role of Resilience on Mindfulness, Experiential Avoidance, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Symptoms of College Student Veterans: A Cross-Sectional Study,鈥 which is published in the Issues in鈥

Janice Enriquez (Nursing) served as item writer for the Oncology Nurse's Society certified breast care nurse exam. She was one of 15 chosen based on their experience.
Jennifer Vanderlaan and Acacia Herndon (both Nursing) will present their research abstracts at the 2022 Annual Research Meeting for Academy Health in Washington, D.C., in June. They will present based on their research regarding midwifery independent licensing. Herndon is an undergraduate.
