ÐÔÊӽ紫ý is taking action on the environment with the launch of Rebel CAP— a comprehensive climate action plan for the campus - and it contains over 60 sustainability goals.

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý became the first school in the Nevada System of Higher Education to launch a plan to address climate change, unveiling it at a kickoff event on Friday afternoon. Known as the Rebel Climate Action Plan (CAP), the document is a roadmap for how the school will meet its goal of slashing its greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030 and becoming net zero by the university’s 100th birthday in 2057. Frank and Estella Beam Hall at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý appears to look the same. Look closely, however, and you’ll notice the differences. ÐÔÊӽ紫ý eight months after an active shooter on Dec. 6, 2023, killed three professors and wounded another in Beam Hall, the building is reopening for ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s fall semester with $38 million in enhanced safety measures.

The fall semester here at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý begins on Aug. 26. That will be the first time students will be returning to Beam Hall. It's been closed since the shooting on Dec. 6, and staff has been working hard to make sure students and faculty feel safe.
