Experts predict nearly 400,000 people will move to the Las Vegas Valley over the next 10 years. Gov. Joe Lombardo joined developers, realtors, policymakers and researchers today to look for ways to build homes for all of them, while confronting the reality that the Valley lacks affordable housing for all the people who live here right now.

The 2026 Las Vegas Housing Outlook is held at the Las Vegas Realtors facility on South Rainbow Boulevard Thursday, April 23, 2026. The annual event was sponsored by Summerlin and presented by Home Builders Research.

As airfares rise to counteract increasing jet fuel prices, some airlines are also opting to suspend routes to and from Las Vegas. Economists say the decisions airlines make can impact Las Vegas’ tourism economy, with people changing the way they travel.
With so many academic programs for cybersecurity still playing catch-up, the bipartisan, bicameral Cyber Ready Workforce Act would create a grant program to support registered cybersecurity apprenticeships.

Lombardo noted Nevada’s standing as the top state for post-pandemic small business growth in a report from ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s Center for Business and Economic Research, as well as its ranking among the top states for business strength in a national study called the Area Development Report.

After the state of Nevada suffered a massive cyber attack that caused major issues across a number of government agencies, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has now set its sights on training students to monitor future potential threats. Last month, the university established the NIC. The goal is training the next generation of IT professionals. It also acts as a hub to serve state industries and government offices, helping them secure their data.

At ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, which in March formally launched its Institute of Cybersecurity, the two-year Youth Rebel Start Academy within the College of Education, allows high schoolers to earn college credit and gain real-world experience through paid apprenticeships in multiple fields, including IT and cybersecurity. The ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Cyber Clinic also offers cybersecurity services at no cost to businesses that may need them, giving participants the chance to develop their skills in a hands-on environment.

According to ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s Center for Business and Economic Research, 17% of the Las Vegas workforce relies on tips. Many looked forward to the change during Trump’s campaign stop in the valley in August 2024.

In Clark County, prices are not only well above the national average, but they are also higher than the statewide average for Nevada. The longer the elevated prices persist, the more difficult it is for locals and tourists to make ends meet.
