And expensive too鈥搕he National Retail Federation says Americans who celebrate Valentine鈥檚 this year plan to spend nearly $200 on average. That includes gifts for a special someone, but also kids, friends, family members, co-workers and pets. Valentine鈥檚 Day, above all, is a triumph of marketing.

Last time, we talked about an impeachment involving a Nevadan at the state level. Nevada has another major connection to the history of impeachment: in 1986, U.S. District Judge Harry Claiborne became the first federal judge impeached, convicted, and removed from office since the Civil War. It was a complicated, controversial case.

As an often-cold Midwestern child of the Nineties, I grew up with 鈥 or rather, in 鈥 a precious orbit of fleece jackets. There was the cosmically-patterned Patagonia pullover without which I was not photographed from the years 1992 to 1998 and the pistachio green The North Face zip-up I even slept in through middle school until it grew holey. For two decades, I wore one fleece until it physically disintegrated, only to replace it, eventually, and repeat the cycle all over again.
鈥淲hat happens here, only happens here鈥 is the 鈥渘ew鈥 slogan, unveiled in a 60-second commercial on CBS鈥檚 Grammy Awards telecast on Sunday night. The ad features Shania Twain, Christina Aguilera, Aerosmith and others with a glittering selection of Vegas landmarks and spectacles.

It鈥檚 been more than a century since the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean 鈥 but despite the decades that have passed since 1912, the memory and legacy of the 鈥渦nsinkable ship鈥 continue to mesmerize historians and enthusiasts.
