Experts and researchers from ÐÔÊӽ紫ý and the University of Nevada School of Medicine will meet to discuss reasons why health disparities exist among certain population groups, share research and explore solutions.
Panelists will address topics such as pedestrian injuries and deaths, gender differences in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease, the reliance on hospital emergency rooms to treat mentally ill patients, oral health in the elderly population, and legal approaches to combating elder abuse.

Researchers believe by better understanding health disparities in the state, they will be able to improve Nevada's overall ranking. Health disparities are preventable diseases, injuries and related adverse health conditions that exist among specific population groups.
Researchers from the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý School of Dental Medicine, Boyd School of Law, School of Nursing and the School of Community Health Sciences along with researchers from the University of Nevada School of Medicine will participate.
The event is sponsored by The Nevada IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), a National Institutes of Health (NIH) program designed to help traditionally underfunded states build biomedical infrastructure. Nevada INBRE also works with Nevada System of Higher Education partner institutions to promote biomedical research knowledge and educational opportunities across the state.
