Antidepressants are prescription medications primarily used to treat depression, anxiety, and several other long-term health conditions. According to a recent article (2026) published in BMJ Mental Health, 16.6% Americans were on antidepressants.

Mahsa Pashaeimeykola, a Ph.D. student in public health at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, talked about her study, 鈥淓xploring factors influencing cessation of gambling behavior using the Theory of Planned Behavior among college students,鈥 on gambling as a public-health issue among young adults. Some 20 million U.S. adults report problematic gambling, while college students are particularly vulnerable, with as many as 14% meeting the criteria for problem gambling. That also correlates with problems with alcohol and drug use, she said. In their survey of students, some 40% could be categorized as moderate risk for problem gambling.

There are about 412,000 independent restaurants and nearly 240,000 chain restaurant locations in America, according to data from Technomic via Nation's Restaurant News. That's well over 600,000 establishments that need to be regularly inspected to get those health inspector grades you see in restaurant windows. While diners may notice some things on their own, we rely on inspectors to catch the issues we can't see to ensure food safety. There are a few things that will jump out at a health inspector right away that most people might not notice.

Asma Awan (Social and Behavioral Health) and Manoj Sharma (Social and Behavioral Health, Internal Medicine) presented a paper titled, 鈥淥vercoming Workforce Shortages: Evidence from a Structured, Scholarship Experiential Program Linking Academia and Local Health Departments鈥 at the Academy Health, Annual Research Meeting held in Seattle, WA from鈥
Shawn Gerstenberger (Public Health) was awarded a $296,109 grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc., which proposes routine opt-out HIV and syphilis testing for adult ED patients already receiving blood draws for clinical care.
Louisa Messenger (Environmental and Global Health) was awarded a $138,544 grant from Texas Tech University to study population dynamics of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the American Southwest.
Manoj Sharma (Social and Behavioral Health; Internal Medicine) conducted a featured virtual webinar titled, "How to stress less and cope with life challenges effectively" for the "Break ke Baad" group based in Livermore, California. The webinar covered types of stressors, types of coping, and practical techniques based on rational emotive therapy鈥
