Grammy-winning Brothers Sérgio and Odair Assad Perform at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Feb. 13

The Washington Post writes that the brothers perform like "a sort of ‘uber-guitar,’ two instruments and one brain."

The Performing Arts Center â€“ in celebration of 15 years of guitar at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý — fittingly welcome Grammy-winning brothers Sérgio and Odair Assad, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.

The Brazilian-born brothers have set the benchmark for all other guitarists by creating a new standard of guitar innovation, ingenuity, and expression. Their exceptional artistry and uncanny ensemble playing come from both a family rich in Brazilian musical tradition and from studies with the guitar/lutenist Monina Távora (1921-2011), a disciple of Andrés Segovia. In addition to setting new performance standards, the Assads have played a major role in creating and introducing new music for two guitars. 
 
The Assads began playing the guitar together at an early age and went on to study for seven years with Dona Monina. Their international career began with a major prize at the 1979 Young Artists Competition in Bratislava. Odair is based in Brussels where he teaches at Ecole Supérieure des Arts. Sérgio resides in San Francisco, where he is on the faculty of the SF Conservatory.

 

Tickets

Tickets to Sérgio and Odair Assad are $25-$35 and can be purchased through the  or by calling 702-895-ARTS (2787). A $1.50 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý the PAC

The ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Performing Arts Center is Southern Nevada's first home for the arts: it opened in 1976 and celebrates its 44th season this year. It hosts a variety of performances and events and is home to productions presented by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý School of Music, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Dance, Desert Chorale, and the Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society. The ÐÔÊӽ紫ý PAC also is pleased to host various Clark County School District fine arts festivals and concerts.
