The School of Music offers enriching undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students pursuing careers in composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, and performance. We have more than 400 music majors studying under the guidance of experienced artist and performers, master teachers, and respected international scholars.

Black singers historically have not had an easy path to acceptance in opera. It wasn't until 1955 that the Metropolitan Opera featured its first Black singer in a leading role in Marian Anderson. Before that, Black singers had only been featured in supplementary roles or in the chorus on the Met stage. Other legends, like Jessye Norman and Leontyne Price, were among the first Black opera singers to achieve international acclaim, and are also considered trailblazers in this genre, which has taken a long time to embrace Black voices.

Linda Lister (Music) published "Non dimenticar: Memory, Music, and Singers" in the May/June issue of the Journal of Singing, the official journal of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Jennifer Bellor and Jonathan Rhodes Lee (Music) curated a concert at the Rita Deanin Abbey Museum in Las Vegas. Presented as part of the RDA Performs series, the concert combined contemporary compositions by Bellor and music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries by L. Couperin, G. Gabrielli, G.P. Jonathan Rhodes Lee (Music) performed twice in this year's Arizona Bach Festival. Lee appeared as soloist in the season's inaugural concert, presenting Bach's famous Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. After 18 months of rigorous study and leadership development, Liliana Garcia (Music) has been awarded the Certified Public Manager庐 (CPM) designation. Amy Brown (Music) has been elected as the Region II Representative on the National Board of Trustees for the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA) beginning July 1, 2026.
