The Beverly Theater hosted a special screening of the award-winning film BRONSON (2008, starring Tom Hardy) on Saturday, February 7th, at 7:30pm. Following the screening, the Beverly Theater’s CineSomnia hosted a Q&A with Professor Brock Norman Brock, who co-wrote the screenplay with Nicolas Winding Refn.

Released in 2008, BRONSON, was directed by Refn and features an early break-out performance by Tom Hardy as a young man sentenced to seven years in prison for robbing a post office and who ends up spending three decades in solitary confinement in his efforts to become ‘Britain’s most famous prisoner.’ The film garnered three wins and seven nominations at several film festivals internationally, including Hardy’s 2009 win for Best Actor at the British Independent Film Awards, and was also an official selection at Sundance. It is widely considered to be a modern cult classic.

A faculty member in the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý School of Cinematic Arts since 2023, Brock Norman Brock teaches in the School's Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Dramatic Media program and the Bachelor of Arts in Film program. Here, he brings his professional experience as an award-winning screenwriter to the educational stage, inspiring new writers and strengthening the skills of the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý grad students.

Aside from BRONSON, Brock’s screenwriting credits include THE MUSTANG, directed by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre and starring Matthias Schoenaerts, which earned recognition from the Satellite Awards, Gotham Awards and Film Independent and Idris Elba’s directorial debut YARDIE (2018). In the early 2000’s, Brock was Senior Development and Production Executive at the UK Film Council, where he worked on projects such as YOUNG ADAM (with fellow current ÐÔÊӽ紫ý professor David Mackenzie), THE CONSTANT GARDENER, GOSFORD PARK, VERA DRAKE and THE PROPOSITION.

The ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Dramatic Media is a fully funded, three-year screenwriting program housed in the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý School of Cinematic Arts. Graduate students focus on developing feature-length film scripts and television pilots.
