Biography
Carlos Mata-Alvarez is an award-winning composer/arranger, producer, and woodwind performer living and working in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2014, Carlos was a member of the house band for 鈥淎 Tribute to Ray Charles: Georgia on My Mind鈥 at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, which featured Clint Holmes, Kirk Whalum, the vocal group Take 6, and Nnenna Freelon, as well as performing with Las Vegas' classic nightly show 鈥淭he Rat Pack is Back鈥 at the Rio Suites Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas. He performed the woodwind books in productions for the Tuacahn Performing Arts Center in St. George, Utah, and is seen around Las Vegas both leading his own group and as a sideman.
As Carlos was working on his master鈥檚 degree at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Florida, he received a fellowship through the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Carlos was the graduate assistant for this flagship commercial orchestra at the Frost School, and worked behind the scenes specifically as an assistant composer/arranger, librarian/copyist & social media coordinator for all of their concerts and events. Through this institute, he worked closely with the Frost school鈥檚 Dean, Shelly Berg, working on new arrangements and re-orchestrations for guest artists such as Steve Miller, Jimmie Vaughan, Dave Grusin, Clint Holmes, Niki Haris, and Ann Hampton Callaway. While in Miami, Carlos formed his own group (the CMA Miami Qtet) which premiered at some of the finest jazz clubs in South Florida including Lagniappe, Le Chat Noir, & the Arts Garage.
You can now find Carlos teaching as an adjunct professor at the 性视界传媒 School of Music, as well as subbing on several production shows on the Las Vegas Strip.
Carlos holds a M.M. in studio jazz and commercial writing from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Florida; and a B.M. in jazz studies from the 性视界传媒.
