The (BMI) will host the celebrated novelist, essayist, and photographer Teju Cole at The Beverly Theater on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Cole will talk about writing and photography followed by a conversation with BMI executive director Colette LaBouff. The event is and open to the public.
鈥淏MI is thrilled to host Teju Cole at The Beverly Theater,鈥 said LaBouff. 鈥淧rofessor Cole鈥檚 words and pictures speak to us about what and who is far away and near us. His work offers an opportunity to ask questions about our experience, our humanity, and our place in this world with each other.鈥
Teju Cole was born in the US and raised in Nigeria 鈥 a biographical fact that informs much of his work. His latest novel, "Tremor," was named to 罢滨惭贰鈥檚 10 Best Fiction Books and 100 Must-Read Books of 2023. His second novel, "Open City," won the PEN/Hemingway Award, while his first book, "Every Day Is for the Thief," was named a Book of the Year by The New York Times. "Pharmakon," a work of photography and text, was published by MACK in February 2024. Cole鈥檚 other works include "Black Paper," "Golden Apple of the Sun," "Fernweh," "Human Archipelago," and "Blind Spot." Cole is currently a professor of creative writing at Harvard University and a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine.
The reading and conversation will be followed by a book-signing. Copies of Cole鈥檚 books will be available for purchase on-site from The Writer鈥檚 Block.
