The freedom we enjoy every day in the United States comes from commitment and sacrifice, and we are grateful to the men and women who make those sacrifices and serve our country. Approximately 2 million individuals – active duty and reserves – protect our nation around the clock to ensure our freedoms. They do it with honor and courage, without fanfare or complaint.
I know first-hand the sacrifices our servicemen and servicewomen and their families endure every day because I come from a military family. I deeply respect our 1,600 veterans, as well as our military-affiliated students, who have chosen to serve our country. They are here to transition to civilian life or chart a new journey, and it is an honor they are part of the ÐÔÊӽ紫ý family.
When I first arrived at this university, one of my first calls was to the Military & Veteran Services Center to understand what they do and to offer my support. I was thoroughly impressed. Since establishing its center in 2012, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has earned multiple awards for the programs and services it provides military and veterans. Nearly 2,000 veterans have graduated from ÐÔÊӽ紫ý over the past eight years.
As we celebrate Veteran’s Day, I am proud to lead a university dedicated and committed to supporting all those who served in the past or are making sacrifices for our country today. Their efforts protect us and our democracy. Thank you.
