I choose to work at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý because of the campus environment and having the ability to work with the public, staff, and students.
Where did you grow up and what was it like?
I grew up in a small town in Mexico; I enjoyed the small town, and knowing everyone made it feel as though we were all friends.
What are some of you job duties?
I am currently assigned to the facilities/grounds tree crew. We maintain all the trees on campus — trimming trees, planting new trees, fertilizing, and doing insect control. Safety is a top concern for both my crew and the public.
Is there anything people on campus can do to make your job easier?
It would be helpful if the public did not climb on trees or tie objects to them. Also, when we have a work zone coned off for safety, if the public would not walk through the work zone this would be helpful.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I love Mother Nature and landscaping. Being at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has provided me with training opportunities; I enjoy increasing my knowledge in regard to tree and landscape care.
What would be your tips for landscaping success for homeowners in Southern Nevada?
Be aware of U.S. Department of Agriculture and Sunset Garden Zone requirements for trees and plants. It is important to know what plants will survive in our climate and to select plants that are appropriate for the location they are being planted.

Finish my career in landscape architecture and be my own boss.
Tell us about a time in your life when you have been daring.
Every day I work in trees is daring. Working in 30- to 40-foot-high trees, I must secure myself to insure my safety.
Proudest moment?
I am proud of my marriage to my wife and proud of my children.
Who inspires you?
The supervisors around me, and coworkers who work hard to accomplish their goals.
Pastime or hobbies?
Going to the movies and spending time with my family. I also like to play tennis and soccer.
