This review found that, despite strong representation in residency programs, Asian American orthopaedic surgeons are significantly less likely to advance into senior academic or leadership roles, a “bamboo ceiling” effect quantified by a pooled risk difference of 0.19. The findings highlight structural barriers to career progression and the need for targeted mentorship and promotion reforms to improve health equity and people-centered care.
