We hope your spring 2025 semester is going well!
As international faculty or staff, you may have opportunities to travel regionally, nationally, or internationally for research, conferences, academics, or sightseeing. To ensure smooth travel, we'd like to remind you of some simple precautions you should take as an international employee.
Domestic Travel
When traveling within the United States, we recommend that you keep the original/paper versions of your passport, visa stamp, and other immigration paperwork, as well as employment contracts, in a safe place at home. You should always keep any previous immigration documents, even if they are outdated, including all USCIS receipt and approval notices, as you may need those in the future.
Please take photos of your current U.S. immigration documents and keep them accessible on your phone at all times in case needed. These documents include:
- Valid passport
- Most recent H-1B, O-1, or TN visa, even if expired (Canadians are exempt)
- Current I-797 A/B Approval Notice (H-1B or O-1)
- Most recent
International Travel
When traveling internationally, we recommend keeping the following documents in your carry-on, along with valuables, money, medications, and other important documents:
- Passport that is valid for at least six months past your arrival date
- Valid H-1B, O-1, or TN visa (Canadians are exempt)
- Original I-797 A/B Approval Notice (H-1B or O-1)
- Letter verifying current employment from your department chair or director
- Copies of your three most recent 性视界传媒 paystubs (can be found in Workday)
- For dependents, proof of the relationship to primary scholar (marriage certificate or birth certificate)
Upon Reentry to the U.S.
Once you reenter the U.S., please to ensure Customs and Border Protection (CBP) admitted you in the correct status and for the correct dates. You can email a copy of your new I-94 to scholar@unlv.edu for your International Scholar Advisor to review as well. Notify us immediately if you notice any errors, so that we can reach out to our contact in CBP to request a correction.
If your current U.S. immigration status is expiring, International Student & Scholar Compliance will work with you and your hiring department to file any needed extension paperwork as early as the immigration regulations permit. Please email scholar@unlv.edu if you have any questions about your current status or the extension process.
If you have any questions, please email scholar@unlv.edu or call 702-774-6477 for assistance.
Best regards,
Laura Chaney
