Anthony LaBounty and Kellie Spooner at Artemus Ham Concert Hall
The Cullen Skink Rag, , is a musical ragtime composition paying tribute to and inspired by the Scottish culinary favorite Cullen Skink, a seafood chowder born of the Scottish coastal town of Cullen.
The Cullen Skink Rag is composed by Anthony LaBounty (ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Music) who encountered the chowder on his first visit to Scotland in Summer 2025.
‘Skink’ is a Scottish slang term for an improvised snack from the kitchen. The town of Cullen hosts an annual national cook-off competition of the Cullen Skink yielding both annual culinary champions and 'People’s Choice' award winners for the best Cullen Skink. LaBounty’s first taste of Cullen Skink was at the historic Aberlour Hotel, built in 1812, where he met the 2024 Cullen Skink Champion (and 2026 Cullen Skink 'People’s Choice' award winner) Kellie Spooner, the managing director of the Aberlour Hotel in Aberlour, Scotland.
The Cullen Skink Rag premiered at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall in Las Vegas on April 23, with Spooner attending as an honored international guest. Orchestra parts and conductor’s score for The Cullen Skink Rag will also be sent to the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for future performance.
