Rebecca Manns (PhD candidate; Koury group), as a recent recipient, received an additional Fellowship Assistance Award through the program. The award comprised of $10,000 in matching funds for the purchase of equipment in support for her research. With the funds, Rebecca was able to purchase a high-temperature furnace which will be used to sinter ceramic nuclear fuel (UO2) with varying amounts of fission products. These simulated fuels will be used in diffusion couples to examine interactions between spent nuclear fuel and novel cladding materials.
